BISWANATH: The representatives of the Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad filed a complaint regarding the recent event held in Mangaldai of Assam wherein people were openly trained in the use of firearms.
In the complaint filed at the Biswanath Chariali Police Station, members of the Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad demanded that proper action be taken against those supporting the incident. They also demanded the immediate arrest of the people who gave the training about the use of firearms.
In connection with the firearms training during a training session of the Prabin Togadiya-led Rashtriya Bajrang Dal in Mangaldai Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MMVM), a private school in Mangaldai, Mangaldai Police have arrested two accused persons involved in this unauthorized arms drill. They are Bijoy Ghosh of Ward No. 4 of Mangaldai town and one Gopal Boro of Dimakuchi in the Udalguri district. Both the accused persons have been booked in connection with Mangaldai PS case No. 357/2023 under section 153(A)/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
On their production on Wednesday evening, the court remanded Gopal Boro to police custody for one day and Bijoy Ghosh to judicial custody in Mangaldai District Jail. Earlier, though police had arrested Principal of MMVM Hemanta Payeng and employee Ratan Das, they were released on bail on Tuesday evening.
In the second FIR lodged at Mangaldai Police Station on August 2, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Nabadweep Changmai requested the police to file an FIR against the chairman of MMVM Zoii Nath Sarma as he accorded permission for the firearm training in the school without intimating the district administration. It was also mentioned that in the body of the application filed by Abhijit Ghosh on July 13, the Principal of MMVM had forwarded it to the chairman of MMVM for according permission for the training camp.
